Cuba in sight

“So good news we’re not lost at sea, just getting lazy about writing our blog but we’re back, possibly to ruin your day again. The weather is as fickle as ever. We had a busy and more dramatic night watch with squalls and sudden heavy rain (like buckets of water being tipped over our heads) which made sail changing challenging in the early hours but now the wind direction has shifted again and we’re back to motor sailing which is frustrating. But we were pleased to finally use that wet weather gear which has remained in our suitcases up to now.
This week we’ve had birthdays, each with a song written and sung for the lucky birthday boy or girl and mouth watering cakes made by the one and only Richard. Yesterday we were lucky to anchor off the Bahamas and had a welcome swim in the azure waters there. A lone dolphin came to check out the boat and today we’ve seen more dolphins but this trip there have been far fewer than is typical for this voyage so we’re all worried about what has happened to them – it’s on the long list of things to search when we’re back on shore. This week we’ve also eaten fresh fish on board, caught by our champion fisherman, Zack – delicious Mahi Mahi and Wahu. To port we can see the coast of Cuba, our final destination. There are mixed feelings on board about coming to the end of this epic voyage, the end of a unique and extraordinary experience but the chance to be back with our loved ones. We’ve certainly formed memories that will never leave us and made friendships that we are sure will stay the passage of time. So we have just 3 days left of watching the waves, steering the ship, polishing the brass, scrubbing the decks, hoisting the sails and listening to the sea. And we will enjoy every second.
See you all soon and sending so much love to our families back home.”
