Wind!

Een verslag van Wieger:
“Saturday April 3, somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. The wind is coming! The word is spreading. Finally we shall set sail, hopefully today. Yesterday was another day of motoring, no wind, one sail to stabilize the ship in the high swell. Somewhere there must be wind, not here, no trade or any other winds. Are these the first signs of a climate change? Siberian cold in the Netherlands in the beginning of March, storm somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean and the disappearance of the trade winds? Or is it just a normal situation happening every now and then? It gives us all the time to read, think, talk and enjoy the wide ocean and the beautifull ship ‘Oosterschelde’ with her crew.
We have seen 5 whales so far, one passing very close to the ship, signalling hello with its huge fins. The need for a search engine is urgently felt, what kind of whale was that, or that bird and what is the meaning of this word or how to explain the appearance of the ‘green flash’. The mysterious green flash, only to be seen under certain conditions of the atmosphere, just a second after the disappearance of the sun under the horizon. Some people saw it, others missed it. I did not see it. There will be many more sunsets for a new chance. And there will be much time to learn all the names and hear the stories of the crew and to turn the eye inwards.
