Visit to Ascension

“With squinting eyes I step from the focsle into the abundance of sun only to discover that we have arrived at the island of Ascension. Enjoying a nice dinner, having a drink with shipmates and later on retiring to the local bar where we celebrated the journey up to now; it was the recipe for a nice evening out. The bar being closed down quite early, we decided to go for a swim in the pleasantly warm water and walking up the quay, we found a friend we made earlier, waiting for us with some cold drinks in the back of his Ute. Together with the locals we had loads of fun jumping into the water from the 5-meter high quay before at about 12 I had to go back to the ship to take my watch. The next day, after doing some maintenance, we were given the afternoon off. We spend a relaxing day at the beach revitalising in the warm blue water swimming in the breakers crashing on the beach. Round about 7 we returned to the good ship, ready for the long journey home.”
