Een verslag van Aliesa de Bray:
“One of the basic necessities in life is food. On land also, so on a ship maybe even more so. If you don’t eat you feel sick, and doing watches, putting up or down the sails will become a hassle. But cooking on a ship is not easy. You can have a really strong swell in which the ship rolls a lot, sending everything sailing. And of course, if you are away from land a long time, like we are, it is difficult to keep everything fresh. There comes in our amazing cook Wouter! He is making sure we are well fed. During the morning we get cereals and bread. During lunch bread and maybe some leftovers from dinner the evening before, and during dinner….
Well dinner is a different story. If the weather is bad, meaning lots of waves, we get soup or salad as a starter and pasta or ‘hutspot‘ (a Dutch dish with carrots and potatoes) as main. But if the weather is good, you better skip lunch, cause the feast Wouter puts on the table is amazing! A few evenings ago, we had such a kind of feast. We had almost ten different kinds of food ranging from salad to potatoes to artichokes, to goat cheese, couscous to figs. Everyone looked at the table in awe! The other day we had a three-course meal consisting of asparagus soup as starter. Pasta Carbonara as main and as dessert vanilla icecream with a pancake, whip cream and cherries with cherry sauce.
So to all the people at home, don’t worry about us not getting enough food. We are getting almost too much and the one thing is even more delicious as the next.
Thank you Wouter!
